I was Engineering Director of an Oxfordshire based medical device start up working on 3-D X Ray devices based on digital tomosynthesis.
Engineering challenges included ultra high vacuum and high voltage environments which greatly limited material selection choices.
In addition to product design I was involved in the creation of a quality management system and securing ISO 13489 status for the company.
I was Engineering Director of a Wiltshire based Medical start up where the product is a point of care diagnostic device.
The patient sample is pipetted into a consumable cartridge before being placed into the tray in the machine. The diagnostic machine then performs a series of process steps and PCR amplification and detection of the sample leading to a diagnosis in 30 minutes compared to days for traditional methods.
Technologies included servo control, pneumatics, micro fluidics, microcontrollers, heat transfer.
Production processes included plastics injection moulding, laser welding, thermal bonding, sheet metal forming.
