The Joint European Torus (JET) is a nuclear fusion research Tokomak. It was commissioned in 1983 and after 40 years of record breaking research will complete its work at the end of 2023.

Planning is underway to decommission and repurpose the hardware. After use, the vessel is now hazardous for human entry so the job will have to be done with robots.

As part of the RACE team I am involved in the planning and engineering challenges of undertaking this decommissioning.
